Yet, views of what it is, how it works, and what phenomena it covers remain controversial. This is especially true within the Minimalist Program, which takes agreement to play a key role in the formal licensing of Case (Chomsky 2000). This has given rise to a plethora of research concerning “uninterpretable features”, and the workings of Agree. Concentrating on structural Case, I will present a synthesis of the main approaches to the theory of Case, discussing along the way some current approaches that derive aspects of Case from other grammatical domains.\n
