DESCRIPTION:Divendres, 28 de novembre de 2025, a les 16h\nSala de Graus\nFacultat de Filosofia i Lletres, UAB\nEl Centre de Lingüística Teòrica de la UAB dedica una conferència anual de lingüística teòrica a la memòria de la Dra. Carme Picallo. \nAquestes “Conferències en memòria de Carme Picallo / Carme Picallo Annual Lectures”, dictades per lingüistes de prestigi reconegut, ens permeten homenatjar la nostra col·lega i amiga, i enfortir les relacions internacionals. \nEn aquesta cinquena edició, la conferència “A minimalist Case theory” anirà a càrrec del Dr. Giuseppe Longobardi (University of York)\nAbstract:\nA fundamental question of linguistics is if and how the language faculty provides an optimal solution to the problem of connecting form and meaning (Chomsky 1995, 2001). In this work, based on a dataset of quite a few languages from various families, I address this issue in the domain of Case and its variable externalization. It is proposed that the reduction of Case to just two basic types, interpretable and uninterpretable, with an obvious difference in the mapping to C-I and secondarily to A-P, paired with a general Case-checking theory, accounts for most of the variation in the realization of several surface Cases.\nResum:\nUna de les qüestions fonamentals de la lingüística és si, i de quina manera, la facultat del llenguatge ofereix una solució òptima al problema de connectar la forma i el significat (Chomsky 1995, 2001). En aquest treball, basant-me en un conjunt de dades que inclou diverses llengües de diferents famílies, abordo aquesta qüestió en l’àmbit del cas i la seva externalització variable. Es proposa que la reducció del cas a només dos tipus bàsics, interpretable i no interpretable, amb una diferència clara en el seu mapeig cap al nivell C-I i, secundàriament, cap a A-P, combinada amb una teoria general de la verificació de cas, explica la major part de la variació en la realització de diversos casos superficials.\n
